At Home with Bill & Mary…an Autumn Afternoon with Old Friends (Apple Trees, a Beaver, and the Allagash Canoe)

It’s always a pleasure to spend the day with Bill and Mary at their home near Sapello, New Mexico.  I’ve visited in different seasons and for different reasons.  And I always learn something new while being immersed in their good company.

This past fall we were afforded such a bounty, thanks in part to a pretty good summer monsoon season.  During times of extreme drought, the walks about the valley have had a different tone, as we search and point out various animal tracks in the dry, dry, dry creek bed.

But this day it was all water blessed:

– We meandered through the meadow tasting varietals of Apples  (planted by horsedroppings years ago),

– We spent time in the BeaverHood…talking about Wicker Wiers, Beaver Habitats and Beaver Habits.

– and I finally met Allagash (the Canoe) whom Bill traveled on rivers in the Northeast in the earliest days of his first career (now Zeek, Bill’s son, has adpoted Allagash to the Northwest).

A day well spent indeed.
